In house Editor
Goal: to substantially improve the level of scientific writing
in English of the papers produced at IFSC thus raising the acceptance rate of our articles in prestigious journals with high
impact factors.
Format: Mrs. Karie Friedman would stay for one month in each semester at IFSC acting as an “in-house editor”.
Additional information: Mrs. Friedman worked for 20 years as an editor at the prestigious journal Reviews of Modern Physics, directly assisting authors (either native English speakers and nonnatives) in polishing their scientific articles. She has authored the article “Writing a Better Scientific Article” (see appendix A of the style guide file) that is today a reference in the “Style Guide” for the journal above.
History:
First visit – from Nov 1 to Nov 18, 2012.
Second visit – from June 4 to July 4, 2013.
Third visit – from October 8 to November 8, 2014.
In the visits above Mrs. Friedman proofread several articles from IFSC, ICMC and a couple from colleagues at UFSCar, working closely with the authors and producing reports identifying the main issues concerning the manuscripts.
